    Mr. Emilios M. Comodromos serves on the Department of Civil Engineering since 1999, initially as Assistant Professor and since 2011 as a Full Professor. He is a civil engineer of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. with postgraduate studies (D.E.A.) at Ecole Centrale Paris and doctoral studies at AUTH. His research interests include the analysis and design of infrastructure projects, soil-structure interaction, the use of numerical methods to simulate and solve complex engineering problems as well as the optimization of constitutional laws for soil materials and soil-structure interfaces. He has been designer, consultant engineer and checker for project design including foundation, landslides, tunnels, bridges, retaining structures, soil or reinforced embankments and rock-fill dams. He is the author of more than 90 publications in international journals and conferences and the author of two books on Computational Geotechnical Engineering and the Design of Foundations.

    Dr. P. Dakoulas is Professor and Director of Soil Mechanics Laboratory. Between 1987-2000 he taught at Rice University (USA). His research focuses on Soil Dynamics, including the seismic behavior of dams and port facilities, cyclic behavior and liquefaction of soils, constitutive models, behavior of underground steel pipelines, advanced numerical analysis. He served as chair of the Earthquake Engineering & Soil Dynamics Committee of ASCE (1992-2000) and as member of the Editorial Board of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering. He received the Prakash Award (1995) and Hsieh Award from the Institution of Civil Engineers UK (2009). He has published numerous articles in international journals and conferences. He participated in several research projects and served as consultant on projects related to earth dams, bridges, gas pipeline systems, etc.

    Theophanes Grammenos is an Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Thessaly. His research interests include general relativity and gravitation with an emphasis on the study of black holes and mathematical cosmology, analytical mechanics, continuum mechanics, tensor analysis and differential equations on curved higher-dimensional manifolds, differential geometry with an emphasis on Riemannian and Lorentzian geometry, and history of mathematical sciences. He has published over 40 articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings, he is the co-author of two textbooks on Linear Algebra and Fuzzy Mathematics, respectively, and has translated over 10 Mathematics textbooks.

    Assistant Professor Katsardi is a Civil Engineering graduate of DUTH (2001) and holds a master’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering form DUTH (2002). She completed her doctoral studies at Imperial College, London in 2007 in the field of Coastal and Ocean Engineering. She has been serving the University of Thessaly since 2012 and specializes in ocean and coastal engineering and the interaction of structures with the marine environment. She has collaborated with major companies of the oil and gas industry (Shell, BP, Statoil, Woodside, Total) and has participated or led research projects related to marine construction, offshore oil platforms and offshore wind energy. She has more than 30 publications in journals and international/national conferences related to the above subjects and has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Thessaly since 2012.

    Lampros Koutas is an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Civil Engineering of The University of Thessaly, and a member of the Concrete Technology and Reinforced Concrete Structures Lab at the same Department. He holds his current position since October 2018. His qualifications include a Diploma (MEng equivalent) in Civil Engineering (2008), an MSc in Seismic Design of Structures (2010) and a PhD in Civil Engineering (2015), from The University of Patras (Greece). In the past, he has worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Dept. of Civil and Structural Engineering of The University of Sheffield (2016-1017), and at the Dept. of Civil Engineering of The University of Nottingham (2014-2016). He has extensively worked in projects related to the use of composite materials (such as FRP, TRM) in retrofitting existing structures, and has built an expertise in the use of textile-fibre composites in structural and earthquake engineering applications. He is a member of the fib Task Group 5.1 "FRP Reinforcement for Concrete Structures", and a former member of the EU-funded COST Action TU1207 "Next Generation Guidelines for Composite Reinforcements".

    Chrysi Laspidou is a Professor at the Civil Engineering Department, University of Thessaly in Greece. Her research interests include resource Nexus and water informatics, mathematical modeling and simulation of physical-chemical and biological processes that take place in natural aquatic systems and other ecosystems, as well as urban water issues, resource depletion and sustainability, virtual water and water-carbon-ecological footprint. She has conducted research in many different aspects of water, from performing mathematical modeling of aquatic system processes to computational biology relevant to ecosystem function, to the socio-economic aspects of water use and water resource management. She is involved in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) projects that are mainly on innovative multisensors and/or biosensors, smart urban water management, smart cities and ICT for improving ecosystem function and quality. She has recently been appointed as a member of the Steering Committee of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus Knowledge Action Network at Future Earth. She has published over 60 articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings and is actively involved either as a Principal Investigator, or as a Coordinator in research projects funded by the European Commission, or national sources.

    Christos G. Papakonstantinou is Assistant Professor of the Civil Engineering Department and director of the Concrete Technology and Reinforced Concrete Structures Laboratory. He has a Civil Engineering diploma from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a MSc degree from the University of South Carolina, and a PhD from Rutgers University.

    His research interests include strengthening of reinforced concrete structures with composite materials, technology and performance of composite materials and reinforced concrete, and the use of recycling materials for the production of “green” concrete. Furthermore, he deals with the use of inorganic fireproof materials as matrix of composite materials. He is member of ACI and ASCE and he has worked as Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (2003-2009), and as faculty of the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi, UAE(2012-2015). He has published more than 40 research articles in peer reviewed magazines and international conferences and has served as principal investigator in NSF funded research projects.

    Dimitrios Sophianopoulos is a Professor of Structural Stability, Dynamics and Steel Structures at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Thessaly, Volos, Greece. He is also the Director of the Laboratory of Strength of Materials and Micromechanics in the same Department, and the Head of the Structural Engineering Division. Prof. Sophianopoulos earned his Ph.D. in 1997 from the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and his Bachelor in 1982 from the same Institution. He has published 45 papers in scholar journals and 67 refereed National and International Conference papers. With more than 400 citations in Scopus (h-index 8) and more than 650 in Google Scholar (h-index 10) Prof. Sophianopoulos is a member of the Editorial Board of 5 International Journals, and serves as a Reviewer in more than 15 high impact international Journals of his field. He is also a member of ASCE, AIAA, Structural Stability Research Council and ISCES. He has supervised two (2) completed PhDs (and 4 more in progress), and numerous Master and Bachelor Theses.     Dr. Konstantinos Vogiatzis is a Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering in the scientific object of "Transport Noise in Environmental and Spatial Planning". His research interests include planning, management and protection from urban environmental noise and air pollution from the construction and operation of transport networks with a focus on airborne noise, ground-borne noise and vibrations and fixed track transportation (Metro, Tram & High speed rail networks), air transports and intercity, exurban & suburban road transport systems in combination with their integrated environmental and spatial management. Prof. Dr. Vogiatzis is, among others, a Member of the European Noise Committee - National Representative (Regulatory Noise Committee & Noise Committee Experts) for the preparation of common methods of environmental noise assessment in Europe (Article 6-2 of Directive 2002/49/EK). He is Greece’s National Representative to the CNOSSOS-EU Technical Committee: Member of WG 1: Quality Framework for determining: (a) geographical exposure and risk assessment based on strategic noise mapping; (b) availability of and methods for collecting and checking input data; and (c) accuracy of overall assessment - WG2 Assessment component for Road Traffic Noise & WG 10: Harmonized strategy for assigning noise levels in buildings. He has published more than 300 articles in scientific journals and conferences and he is a Scientific Director and Coordinator in a number of research programs.
