Panos Gourgiotis is an Associate Professor at the Dept. of Civil Engineering of The University of Thessaly. He has a Civil Engineering diploma from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), an MSc degree in “Analysis and Design of Earthquake Resistant Structures” from NTUA and a PhD in Mechanics from the Mechanics Division at NTUA. Dr Gourgiotis was an Assistant Professor in Applied Mechanics at the Engineering Department at Durham University, UK (2016 - 2020) and a Marie Curie experienced researcher at the University of Trento, Italy (2012 – 2016). His research interests fall in the area of micromechanics of materials. Dr Gourgiotis has conducted research in the areas of fracture and contact mechanics, dislocations, and wave propagation in solids. A significant amount of his research has also been focused in the growing field of generalized continuum theories. The common theoretical thread linking his research work is the question of how the microstructural morphology affects the macroscopical behavior of heterogeneous materials. He has published more than 40 research articles in peer reviewed magazines and international conferences.
